Detailed info

A ruin of a gothic Kasperk castle build in a dominant position, was founded in 1356 to protect the area's gold mines as well as the old route to Bohemia. Advanced fortifications from the same period are found to the southeast and known as "the Deserted Castle". The castle is a fine example of the defense architecture.

The Kasperk castle is unmistakable thanks to its two prism towers, one of which serves as an observation tower. The stronghold was founded in the 14th century by Charles IV to protect the “Gold Route” and gold mines in the vicinity. It was plundered in the 17th century, but partly reconstructed again in the 19th. Inside you will see exhibition on the history of the castle and on the history of the gold mining in the area.
